THE PROCESS

At farmers' markets and art fairs, people constantly query me about how I do what I do. I always say I start with a tree. Either I cut it or it's been cut. First I take the logs to a mill and have them slabbed to my specifications. It's from these slabs that I get most of my pieces. You can see markings on some of the slabs in the photos in this section. Those markings indicate cut lines. The next step is to do the rough cut, but before this stage or before anything can happen, the slabs have to have at least a year of drying time.

Some of these pieces include very detailed carving, which enhances the flow of the figure of the wood. Some are left for the figure to make its own statement as a singular piece of beauty. There are many many many steps to take. It requires time and patience to get any of my pieces ready to photograph for the store page of my website. Thanks for looking, and contact me if you have any questions.
